I need to feed up Vixen a bit. She weighed in at 11.1kg yesterday and should really be about 12.8kg. She has to remain on her current diet of chicken and rice tinned chappie but I am thinking of adding small bits to it. She already eats 4 meals a day as she can only eat small amounts at a time. I bought some rice pudding today, but has anyone else got any other ideas of what I can add or give her as extra snacks?

Chicken and rice and tinned chappie are all really low fat so unless she specifically needs low fat too I would imagine you could add some fattier stuff like cheese, sausages or meat with more fat if she can tolerate it?

It is the only food she can digest well and its taken years to find a suitable food so I really need to keep her on it. She has weetabix with milk in the morning and have bought full fat milk today so that will hopefully start to help. I think I need to try and raid the cheap meat section at the supermarket and see what I can find.

If she can tolerate it can you add a little bit of oil to her meal. Start off with a teaspoon and once she's had a few days of that you can up it gradually. If you give her a large amount straight off it'll probably go straight through her while if you up it slowly it'll give her body a chance to adapt.

Tripe was good at keeping Rhomi's weight up. Again you can add small amounts to it to her grub (if you can bear the smell)

Could you add an extra meal or 2 in?

I'd be inclined to replace the weetabix with something more calorific, more rice would be better, but maybe even something sugary. I know we normally say steer clear of sugary stuff, but just to get her wieght up ...

Oh unless she needs the bran in weetabix? In which case you could just add some sugar

Just normal oil or anything in particular?

Tripe  will consider it tho!

I am going to try and add another meal in at 10.30am but am struggling to see when I can add another as she can't eat later than half 7 in the evening to manage her bowel movements over night.

I did quote Jazzlet as well

The weetabix and chappie seem to be the perfect balance for her digestion. She has to have liquid added to every meal to help things move smoothly.

She does suffer badly from diarrohea on atopica days so might look to move her onto azathioprine once her current stock has gone.

We have both noticed in the last couple of months that she is eating slower, so something to mention to the neurologist next week.

salmon oil would be my first choice but olive oil or even bog standard veg oil would be fine. Might be worth trying whatever oil you've got in the house first to see if she's ok with it before forking out for salmon oil.

Perhaps if she can have rice pudding you could stir in a little cream?
