Jade had a lovely time playing in the snow today but when she came home I have noticed that she has damaged a nail. It looks like it has lifted up exposing the quick. It hasn't bled and she isn't limping but she doesn't want me to have a proper look. I am worried that if I fuss about with it too much the Vet won't get anywhere near it if I have to take her in tomorrow. She is a scaredy at the vet's at the best of times. :(

Has anyone else's dog done this and what did you do

Harvey pulled the entire nail casing of last week on one of his back claws, bloodbath ensued and straight to the vets I'm afraid. Told to keep it dry and covered and given antibiotics

Poor Harvey, I hope it's healing well.

This morning I had a three legged sad dog so took her to the vets. They have trimmed it back but it is still too attached for them to pull off. They are hoping that the new nail will grow and push the old one out, but have warned that it might get caught and tear off before she loses it. Warned it will bleed a lot and to be prepared. :(

I was very proud though as Jade was a little star. Lou the lovely vet spent ages sat on the floor, then slowly massaged from the shoulder down until Jade went all mushy and flopped her poorly foot over her arm and let her have a good look. No sedation required and she let Lou trim it back and was even brave enough to stand all waggy tailed and take a biscuit after it had been done. :)

He's not too bad thank you but it did bleed A LOT !! I was really scared because with 3 dogs at first I couldn't see which one it was that was bleeding. I've looked at his nail and the quick does look to be hardening up a bit but not sure if nail will grow back or not :err:
