Does anyone use raw to go?; Freezer and ordering advice needed

Right, I now have my second freezer (under counter type with drawers) and we are going to use 'raw to go' I think to make it easier.

Can I ask though, how much do people generally order at once and how much do you think will fit in my freezer? R2G have recommended 5 packs of mince a day between my three to see how they go to start with. :dunno:

I've been up to raw to go in Abergavenny and picked it up myself (their stuffed hooves are my 2's favourite treat)

I've got a similar sized freezer and could fit (with a lot of swearing) about 60 packets from Landywoods which are a similar size. I never did as big a raw2go order because I lost Rhomi shortly after discovering them.

My 2 (Rhomi and Rocket) used to get through just over 2 packets a day between them.

edit: If you order necks/wings/hooves etc. you won't fit as much in your freezer because of the odd shapes.

That's brill, thanks Sian.

Sorry to ask but how big was Rhomi? Kevin is 35 kg and they are advising we start with 2 packets a day, 1 for Florence (17kg) and possibly 2 for Tallulah (to try and build weight closer to 27kg).

Probably best to have too many than too few. :)

Rhomi was a weedy 23kg but should have been closer to 27kg but she never made that heavy!
Rocket is about 11kg

Rhomi had nearly 2 packets a day
Rocket had closer to 1/2 a packet

I was meant to say thank you Sian for your help. :flowers:

Well after an extremely prompt delivery we now have a freezer full of raw mince! :goodjob: I even have room for some more which is good to know for our next order.

We defrosted some ready for tonight's dinner and Florence typically dived straight in and polished hers off. Kevin was a reluctant starter and wasn't too sure what to make of it all. After some persuasion and a few cautious nibbles he had a complete change of heart and gobbled it all up.

We do have one problem though....Tallulah. She seems very much stuck in her ways and would not go anywhere near it. Bless her, we had to give up for this evening and give her kibble again as nothing we did tempted her. She gets stressed around food if too much fuss is made so we just let her be. She got some cottage cheese out of it though so it wasn't too bad for her.

Any ideas to tempt a raw refuser would be great though if she insists on kibble then we don't mind sticking with that at her age, we just hoped the raw would be better for her.

Try warming it in the microwave with a bit of water? And just a tiny bit in with her kiddle to start with.
Do not do this with anything with tripe in through

Tried all that with Tallulah AND we started with the tripe to make it more smelly and interesting for them. The tripe certainly worked for the other two but maybe she was put off by the strong smell, though she LOVES tripe sticks! Maybe I need to ease her in with plain chicken. :dunno: I even tried hand feeding her which is not an experience I want to repeat!

She is in the vets today so will treat her to a roast chicken tonight I think and try the raw again tomorrow.

Hope the wee madam is OK.

You are a far, far better woman than me hand feeding warm tripe

Well a few days on and Florence LOVES her meals and seems to be doing well on it. Kevin is still very apprehensive when first given his bowl but with some cottage cheese or a drop of warm gravy he is eventually tucking in.

Yesterday though Kevin opted out of breakfast and my OH tells me he that Kevin was constipated. He has also had the smelliest wind!! Any ideas?

He probably isn't digesting it properly yet as his tummy hasn't built up the right acids. Don't know if raw to go do complete mixes with bone in but you could try just feeding him meat with no bone for a few days, some fiberous veggies and maybe a bit of yogurt for the probiotics. He'll build up to the right levels - it just takes a bit of time.

All my hounds get spinach about twice a week to help with their blood production (all of the greys have really low red blood counts and Meggie has a history of bleeding out) and keeping the system moving all round. Seems to work for them
